Aging Reach 2 ACTIVE RESEARCH
The EDC is engaged in the research of 30 projects that include Aging, Cardiovascular, Mental Health, Women’s Health, Infectious Disease, Aging, Diabetes Studies, and others.

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH
The EDC consults and collaborates with many University departments and research institutions, including the Department of Psychology, UPMC, the Department of Neurological Surgery, and the Center for Minority Health.

COMPLETED RESEARCH
The EDC has completed and published results for more than 60 projects. Areas of focus have included Transplantation, Hypertension, and Cholesterol Lowering Intervention.

The objective of Reach II is to refine and test a multi-component psychosocial behavioral intervention to reduce burden and depression among family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's Disease or related disorders.

Cardiovascular BARI 2D
The primary objective of BARI 2D is to simultaneously test the efficacy of treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes and stable coronary artery disease who may be candidates for coronary revascularization.

Infectious Disease Virahep-C
Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV). The study of Viral Resistance to Antiviral Therapy of Chronic Hepatitis C, or VIRAHEP-C, is investigating the best available medication for treating hepatitis C to see how well these medications work in Afican Americans and Caucasian Americans.

Mental Health Step-BD
STEP-BD is the largest treatment study ever conducted for bipolar disorder. It is a long-term outpatient study (5 years) that aims to find out which treatments, or combinations of treatments are most effective for treating episodes of depression and mania and for preventing recurrent episodes.

Women's Health SWAN
The goal of SWAN's research is to help scientists, health care providers and women learn how mid-life experiences affect health and quality of life during aging.
