GSR Online Application Review System
Faculty wishing to review all GSR applications submitted to the department may do so by clicking the button on the right. Contact Lori Smith at smithl@edc.pitt.edu, Gwen O'Brien at obrieng@edc.pitt.edu, or Lindsay Flinn at flinnl@edc.pitt.edu to obtain a user name and password enabling system access.

The two links you will see represent:
  • GSR applications and CV’s submitted by our PhD or DrPH applicants desiring funding (supplemental GSPH application information is also included).

  • GSR applications and CV’s submitted by current doctoral students desiring funding (supplemental GSPH application information is included if electronically available).
All applicants listed have been accepted at both the departmental and school levels. Applicants should have received e-mail confirmation of their acceptance from the GSPH Admissions Manager, although they might not have received GSPH admission offer letters/admission packets by mail yet.

GSR Award Process:
  • Contact Lori Smith at smithl@edc.pitt.edu if you are interested in offering a GSR to an applicant or student. Lori will provide further instructions and obtain final confirmation from Linda Deluco that sufficient funding from an appropriate source is available.

  • Review the applications of our most highly ranked accepted doctoral applicants and students first. These individuals have been offered priority funding by the department (for 1 year) as a recruitment incentive, and the department is seeking to transition them to faculty provided funding. They will be identified with numbers (1--,2--,3-- or 4) before their names. Please contact Lori Smith prior to communicating with one of these candidates if you may be interested in offering him/her a GSR.

  • Review the other GSR applications on the list if none of the highly ranked accepted applicants or students are an appropriate fit for your position.

  • Contact the Student Services Office to obtain the name of the applicant’s or student’s academic advisor, and determine if he/she can confirm the individual’s funding status. The advisor may be in the process of making a funding offer, or know of another faculty member who is planning to offer the applicant/student financial support.

  • Please determine the following from GSR candidates prior to discussing your position with them:

    • If the candidate is an accepted applicant, if he/she is still interested in attending GSPH (some do not inform GSPH or the department that they have accepted another admission offer).
    • If he/she is currently in the midst of considering a position offer from another faculty member. Faculty advisors may or may not be aware of these discussions.

  • OFFICIAL GSR OFFERS WILL BE EXTENDED CENTRALLY BY THE DEPARTMENT. This will enable more effective tracking of the overall position award process. Although you may inform applicants/students that you are offering them positions, Lori Smith will e-mail recipients on behalf of Dr. Newman and request e-mail responses. These responses will be forwarded to you for your records.

  • Applicants/students awarded GSR’s will receive appointment letters requiring signatures, GSR policy documents and life insurance packets just prior to their matriculation (in August for those matriculating in fall term / in December for those matriculating in spring term).

Note:
  • GSR positions must be funded by grants including full indirect costs. If you need further clarification regarding this, please contact Linda Deluco at deluco@pitt.edu.
